Havest Day and Pin hole camera

This was a busy week! (as usual)

Margaux starting to type this up but we ran out of time so I, Zina, will wrap it up.

We started the week off with our harvest celebration with the whole school by picking fruit and veges from a local gardner, Gaspar. We collected leeks, crazy looking carrots, plums and raisons.  And Gaspar didn't let us go with out giving us some lettuce and pears.

Then when went back to our classes and PReschool and Primary 1 made vegetable soups. Primary 2 made 3 tarts-plum, plum and pear. We washed, peeled, cored, de-seeded, diced, boiled and sweetened the fruit. Then we unrolled our pastry sheets into the cassarole dishes, loaded them up with the fruit and covered the top with a lattice design using pastry.

Then in the afternoon, we invited the parents to come and try our handiwork and of course, try it ourselves! It was yummy and I'm getting hungry thinking about it now!

 

THEN: The activity we've all been waiting for-- making the pinhole camera!

First we learnt about how light travels in a straight line and how a camera works based on that fact.

Then we painted our boxes black inside and poked a tiny hole in some foil an covered a larger hole in our box with it. Margaux, Lidori, Kick and I prepared a darkroom in the downstairs kitchen with a safe light an loaded our cameras with paper..

We headed out to the forest with our cameras to take pictures of mushrooms...Then 3 by 3 we excitedly headed into the dark room to develop our photos. The didn't quite turn out as we expected- maybe we left the shutters open too long or not long enough, but everyone was to happy to have a go at the process.

We tried again today using a different technique with a stencil pattern and pinhole to write our names an make other pictures. The results were pretty cool.
