HIstory: Travelling through time and eating stuff

In the history part of our survival unit, we created a timeline of some of the major Western Civilisations-Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Roman Empire and the Victoria Era. Students worked in pairs and choose one of these to represent. We researched what kind of food they eat. Then, after writing a History Menu, we made and tasted some of these (sometimes) yummy food. First, we had to collect some ingredients so we milked a (chair) cow and collected (grass) grains.

The history team

An Egyptian slave milking a cow (for Cleaopatra's bath probably)

Egyptians and Romans collecting grains.

Ancient Greek ladies milking the cow and a happy Victorian gentleman.

A Roman soldier crushing wheat

Making butter- shake shake shake!

Those handy Egyptian slaves grounding up wheat for flour

Say cheeeese! That handy Egyptian slave (I bought him for 3 camels!) making cheese

Flour, butter, cheese that we made.

The whole time tavelling team!

Historical afternoon tea. We tasted Ancient Egyptian bread, dates; Greek wheat soup and chickpeas, olives; Roman figs and cheese; Victorian cake and tea.
