This week we had a closer look at flowers and how, with the help of our little friends butterflies, birds and bees, they become fruit. We created a large model of the flower and it's parts and acted out the pollination and fertilisation process.
We also had a closer look at onion skin cells and leaf cells. We learnt about photosynthesis as the process where leaves help to make food for the plant and oxygen for us and other animals. Cool stuff!
And a week of science isn't complete without a good old-fashioned experiment! Our research question was: Do seeds need sunlight to germinate?
After 5 days, we found that the seeds hidden from sunlight did actually germinate! They looked taller and not as green. We also think they were taller because they are reaching up for much needed sunlight.
